What to Expect During Your Spray Tan
• Spray tanning uses a solution containing DHA (dihydroxyacetone), a color additive intended for external application to the skin. Follow your artist's instructions to protect the eyes, lips, nose, and other mucous membranes and to avoid inhaling or ingesting the mist.
• You will be given privacy to change into the level of coverage that feels comfortable. Dark swimwear or underwear and loose, dark clothing are commonly recommended because the temporary cosmetic bronzer may transfer before the first rinse.
• The spray application itself typically takes about 15 minutes. After application, allow the solution to dry before dressing, then avoid water, swimming, and heavy sweating for the development time given by your artist. During the first shower, the guide color may rinse away while the developed tan remains.
• Tell your artist about known allergies, sensitivities, recent skin treatments, or other concerns before the appointment. Ask to review the ingredient list when needed and follow the preparation and aftercare instructions for the specific solution used.
• Spray-tan results can vary based on individual skin, preparation, solution, development time, and aftercare. A sunless tan does not replace sunscreen, so continue using appropriate sun protection outdoors.
